RIO DE JANEIRO, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has endorsed calls for Brazil to pursue Carlo Ancelotti for its vacant head coaching role.
Ancelotti has 15 months remaining on his Real Madrid contract but media reports in Brazil have speculated the 63-year-old could join the Selecao when the current European season ends in June.
And Rodrygo told Brazilian media outlet Globo on Thursday that Real Madrid's Brazilian players have broached the subject in a jocular tone with the 63-year-old.
"We joke and say: 'Hey coach we're waiting for you there,'" Rodrygo said ahead of Brazil's friendly against Morocco in Tangier on Saturday.
"He jokes that we are going to pick the team together, the three or four of us in the same room. We have a laugh but there is also a little bit of truth in it. It's difficult because he would have to leave Real Madrid to be able to come [to Brazil's national team], but it would be an honor to have him here."
Brazil's head coaching position became vacant in December when Adenor Bacchi, better known as Tite, stepped down following the team's World Cup quarterfinal defeat to Croatia.
Others to have been linked with the position include Jose Mourinho, Abel Ferreira, Fernando Diniz and Luis Enrique.
