BUENOS AIRES, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Defensive midfielder Guido Rodriguez has been ruled out of Argentina's 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia after testing positive for COVID-19, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) said on Monday.

The entity did not provide details of Rodriguez's condition, nor did it immediately name a replacement for the 27-year-old Real Betis player.

"Guido Rodriguez tested positive for COVID-19 in Europe prior to the trip and will be absent for the double qualifying dates," the AFA said in a social media post.

Argentina will play Chile away on January 27 before hosting Colombia five days later.

The Albiceleste are currently second in the 10-team South American qualifying group and have already guaranteed a place at football's showpiece tournament to be played in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
