TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 19 (PIA) - - The Department of Health (DOH) region 2 has opened a 51-bed capacity Community Isolation Unit (CIU) facility at the Regional Government Center, this city.
Dr. Rio Magpantay, regional director, said the building was intended for the Regional Blood Center, however, since it is not yet operational, the rooms were converted into isolation units for the meantime.
The two-storey facility is equipped with isolation rooms provided with sanitary and food supplies, with comfort rooms and medical staff who will man the CIU in a 24/7 basis.
Magpantay also urged local officials, especially the policy makers, to craft policies and ordinances to mandate every individual to follow the minimum health protocols.
"It is important that the LGUs will ensure in their ordinance and policies that everyone practices the minimum health protocol. Because if everyone will follow these protocols, no one will be infected with the virus," Magpantay said.
On the other hand, Jonathan Paul Leusen, regional director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the chairperson of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force, expressed concerned on the increasing number of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the region.
However, he said everyone should take part in the fight against the spread of the virus as it can be eliminated if everyone will take precautionary measures and follow the health standards and quarantine protocols.
"COVID-19 is here to stay with us. We have to learn to work with it, do business with it," Leusen said.
On his part, Governor Manuel Manuel expressed his gratitude to the RIATF members for the initiative to establish an isolation facility which can be utilized by the LGUs in the event that the isolation facilities in the municipalities will be overwhelmed.
Mamba also expressed his full support for the sustainability of the facility as well as other RIATF members. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
