TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 1 (PIA) - - The town of Solano in Nueva Vizcaya has recorded the highest number of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the entire Cagayan Valley region, the Department of Health (DOH) region 2 confirmed.
In its bulletin on Sept. 30, the said town has already 265 confirmed COVID-19 cases followed by Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with 188, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya with 104, City of Ilagan, Isabela with 98, and Santiago City, also in Isabela, with 86 total cases.
The town of Solano and Tuguegarao city were also declared to have community transmissions as the source of infection of some of their positive cases can no longer be traced.
On the other hand, the towns of Alicia and San Manuel, and the cities of Cauayan, Ilagan and Santiago, all of Isabela province, as well as the towns of Bagabag and Bayombong in Nueva Vizcaya were declared to have local transmissions.
There are also four workplaces that were recorded to have local transmission to include the Adventist Hospital in Santiago City, the City Government Unit of Cauayan, Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center in Bayombong, and Tuguegarao City Police Station, this city.
Regional Director Rio Magpantay said half of the active cases are at the Temporary Treatment and Management Facilities of the Local Government Units, 35 percent are on home quarantine while only 15 percent are referred to the hospitals.
He reiterated that home quarantine is highly discouraged, hence, LGUs should look for possible means to establish their respective isolation facilities that are within the standards set by the department to avoid further transmission of the virus in the localities or communities.
"We need to strengthen the surveillance of influenza-like illness, contain cases in areas with clustering and local transmission, and we have to do intensive contact tracing and identification of the source of the infection," Magpantay said.
He also stated that LGUs should implement aggressive quarantine policies and test the right people. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
