BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Wednesday reported 161 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national count to 4,224.

In a statement earlier Wednesday, the center said it had received a total of 1,047 suspected samples, 161 of which tested positive.

SHANGHAI -- Shanghai reported two new imported COVID-19 cases and no increase in domestically transmitted cases Tuesday, the municipal health commission said Wednesday.

One of the imported cases was a Bolivian national who left Bolivia on July 31 and arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport via Hong Kong on Aug. 2.

ALGIERS -- Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad Tuesday stressed the need to follow preventive measures against COVID-19 after the reopening of mosques in coming days, the official APS news agency reported.

"The reopening of mosques does not mean to omit the existence of the pandemic," Djerad told local media on Tuesday.

TUNIS -- A health official in Tunisia on Tuesday denied the possibility of re-closing borders in spite of an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

The closure of borders will not help reach any solution to control the spread of the epidemic, Nissaf Ben Alaya, director general of the National Observatory of New and Emerging Diseases, told local Al-Jawhara Radio.
