BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Olympic champion, and veteran setter, Ding Xia will strive to play for the national team until the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, a local sports official told Xinhua on Thursday.
"She has told me quite a few times that she is aiming for Paris," said Zhang Yuehong, who won the women's volleyball gold medal at the Athens Games with China before serving as a sports official at the Liaoning Sports Bureau in her hometown.
Also born in Liaoning, the 30-year-old Ding captured the Best Setter award as China retained the World Cup title in Japan in September 2019. She was also a key member of the gold medal winning team at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.
"She is a very passionate player, she loves the sport, she wants to play on," Zhang added. "Of course she is preparing for next year's Tokyo Games. More over, she told me she would try her best to win a ticket to Paris."
Ding and teammates have been training in isolation in Beijing since late January.
